Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was raised and born within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam was a backing singer at Philadelphia International Records. Her father gave her the position of curator of the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She and her family then moved into the historical landmark. In 2005 she was a graduate of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts with a vocal music major. Sullivan started singing in children's choir as a contralto and then she joined the adult choir just a couple of years further on. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was initially limited "I had solos singing in church and someone wanted me to join a gospel label when I had turned eleven, however I wasn't ready to do that," she recalls. "Then when McDonald's was hosting a competition for students in big cities I had the opportunity to perform 'Accept what God Allows' on It's Showtime on the Apollo and the audience loved it". She performed alongside Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday celebration at thirteen. Sullivan signed her first contract to Jive Records when she was 15. In the age group of 15, she was signed to Jive Records. She made an entire album there, but the album was never made available for release. Sullivan was later removed off the record label. The singer maintained a relationship with Missy Elliott and produced a number of the tracks on her debut album, like the viral single "Backstabbers" composed by Timbaland and composed by Elliott.
